Match Day Parking at Etihad Stadium

The first thing you need to know about match days at Etihad Stadium is that you should expect road closures around the stadium immediately preceding the game and up to 20 minutes (or longer at major events) after the match has ended. This eases traffic and allows everyone to leave safely.

The following roads are affected by road closures on match or event days.

  • Ashton New Road – between Alan Turing Way and Darley Street
  • Grey Mare Lane – between Ashton New Road and Alan Turing Way
  • Merrill Street – between Pollard Street and Ashton New Road

A residential parking scheme is also in effect in all neighbourhoods immediately surrounding Etihad Stadium. Streetside parking on any of these streets where it is in effect could, and probably will, lead to a steep fine at the very least, with the possibility of being clamped or your vehicle removed. ParkingScout strongly suggests coughing up the few pounds asked by one of the many nearby car parks on match day.

Etihad Stadium onsite parking

Etihad Stadium operates a number of car parks, three of which are available to fans on match day. All three car parks require pre-booking your spot, and this may be done up to 4 hours before kick-off time. You can pre-book your parking through the official Man City Car Parking site at a cost of £10 per vehicle with 2 passengers, or £12 for single occupancy. Parking is available at the blue, yellow, and green car parks (varies between events), but spaces are limited, so try to book well in advance. These car parks open three hours prior to kick-off and close one hour after the final whistle has blown.

Walking distance

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of affordable or convenient car parks within walking distance of Etihad Stadium on match days, and with all the roads in the immediate vicinity being residents-only, it doesn’t leave you with a lot of options for parking and walking to the stadium. The only acceptable option that we could find was:

  • Q-Park Piccadilly Place M1 3BS – £2.50 to £3.20 per hour, depending on entry time | 30 minute walk

Park and travel by tram

The most popular option for getting to Etihad Stadium on match days seems to be parking a couple of miles from the stadium and taking public transport to catch the game. With an official coach service running from Macclesfield, Marple, and New Mills at costs ranging between £2 and £10 return, depending on the stop selected, as well as a tram service running to the stadium’s dedicated stop every 6 minutes, parking away from the stadium becomes an increasingly viable and convenient option.

For your convenience, we’ve included a list of the most affordable parking options located no more than a short walk to any of the public transport hubs that will get you to the stadium much faster than a car stuck in traffic would.

  • NCP Manchester Oxford Street M1 5EJ – £11.80 for 4 hours via NCP app | 13 minute walk to Manchester Piccadilly Station
  • NCP Manchester Central Car Park M2 3GX – £13.80 for 4 hours via NCP app | 6 minute walk to St Peter’s Square Tram Stop
  • APCOA Manchester China Town M1 4EE – £9.70 for 4 hours | 5 minute walk to Piccadilly Gardens Metrolink
  • Bloom Street ParkingEye M1 3LY – £9.50 for 4 hours | 5 minute walk to Piccadilly Gardens Metrolink
Q-Park Piazza M1 4LX – £2.70 to £3.90 per hour, depending on entry time | 3 minute walk to St Peter’s Square Tram Stop
  • Manchester Piccadilly Gardens Car Park M1 3AY – £13.50 for 4 hours | 5 minute walk to Piccadilly Gardens Metrolink

Free streetside parking (walkable distance)

If you absolutely don’t want to pay for parking on your next visit to Etihad Stadium, you can consider free streetside parking on Riverpark Road or Ridgeway Street. They’re both a 15-20 minute walk to the stadium, and you won’t have any of the security guarantees of parking in an official car park, but it will definitely save you a couple of pounds. Be sure to keep any valuables out of sight.

  • Riverpark Road M40 2XP – Free | 15 to 20 minute walk
  • Ridgway Street M40 7DT – Free | 15 to 20 minute walk

Parking app options on match-day

While car parks within comfortable walking distance of Etihad Stadium are in short supply, driveway rental apps such as Justpark and Your Parking Space have stepped in to fill this niche quite nicely. Locals with a driveway, garage, or carport available have seen an opportunity and put them up for rent on match days for a bit of extra income. Since each owner is free to set their own price, you can expect prices to range wildly between extremely affordable and the absurd.

A general rule of thumb for parking apps near popular attractions is that booking earlier is always preferable to booking later. As more people come to realise the savings that these platforms represent, more and more people turn to them. While you might be lucky and snag a good deal the day before your match, we recommend checking at least a week, preferably two, before your next visit.

To give you an idea of what to expect, we checked two of the biggest players in the driveway parking app game, JustPark and Your Parking Space, for parking spots within walking distance of Etihad Stadium with a two-week lead time. We looked for parking starting one hour before kick-off and for a total of four hours.

JustPark

JustPark had no fewer than 50 spots within a 25-minute walk of Etihad Stadium available. In fact, the map was so populated with places to park that it was kind of difficult to count the exact amount. We found no less than 10 people advertising their driveway for less than £10 for 4 hours during match-time, with some going for as little as £6.30. On average, the majority of spaces were advertised at a cost of anywhere ranging between £9 and £14, comparable to many of the other parking options in this guide, but closer to the stadium and without having to take a bus or tram. As you move to a  5 to 10-minute walk from the stadium, the prices typically increase to £15 to £30 for the period we checked.

Your Parking Space

Your Parking Space also had an abundance of good parking options, although not as many as JustPark. We counted about 25 available parking spaces within a 25-minute walk of the stadium; however, there was only one listing available at less than £10. A number of the spots were listed at £12.50, with the average being closer to £17.
